There are three types of Indiana casinos: riverboat casinos, pari-mutuel casinos, and one Indian casino.
In June 1993 Indiana became the sixth state to legalize riverboat gambling. All of the riverboat casinos in Indiana offer dockside gambling and, unless otherwise noted, are open 24 hours. The minimum gambling age is 21.
In April 2007, the Indiana state legislature authorized the state’s two horse tracks (Hoosier Park and Indiana Grand) to have up to 2,000 electronic gaming machines.
There are no casinos in Indianapolis, but the two racetrack casinos are the closest casinos to Indianapolis. Indiana Grand Racing & Casino is about 30 miles southeast and Hoosier Park Racing & casino is about 45 miles northeast.
Both casinos are open 24 hours and the minimum gambling age is 21. The minimum age for pari-mutuel betting is 18.
Indiana has one Indian casino (Four Winds Casino South Bend) which opened in early 2018. This casino only offers Class II gambling which consist of electronic gaming machines which look like slot machines, but are actually games of bingo and the spinning video reels are for “entertainment purposes only.”
